A couple of days ago my wife was walking back from the shops along the main road in Akbuk. She was adjacent to Gulkent Sitesi when 4 big dogs ran from around the corner and surrounded her, Marie instantly froze. The dogs were not interested in the shopping bag which only contained bread and potatoes. The lead dog (biggest) jumped up at Marie's back tearing her cardigan, fortunately she managed to remain standing.
Our biggest thanks to the bekci at Gulkent who saw the attack and came running to help and chased the dogs away.
My wife was very shaken by the incident and says she dreads to think what would have happened if she had been a child or elderly weak person. Apart from her nerves and a couple of marks on her back she is ok.
The attack took place in broad daylight at 3pm and the lead dog had a tag in its ear denoting it had been neutered and released!

ReplyDeleteWhen will people start and realise that the dogs on the street are all down to the dog lovers never mind nuts off and then f**k off lets get real and start to look out for the people and do the humain thing and put them down before there is a young child ripped to bits and not just a small dog . hope all the street dogs turn up to the bbq on friday
These packs of dogs clearly need to be culled before even more serious incidents occur. problems like this will eventually drive people away which will be very bad for the area.
ReplyDeleteHi Rob, sorry to hear about Maries attack. I would like to say that there are many people here in Akbuk, myself included, that are of the opinion that the tag and release system needs to be changed. What is wrong i wonder with the UK system where stray dogs are rounded up and taken to a pound, if no homes are found or they are not claimed then after a period of time they are put to sleep, the system in place now is cruel to the animals which are left to starve around the streets of Akbuk and not fair to the people who live here having to constantly put up with barking all hours of the night and a danger to us all. WHY DONT WE ALL WHO ARE OF THIS OPINION STAND UP AND BE COUNTED AND SOMEHOW MAKE OUR VIEWS HEARD !! Donna
ReplyDeleteI wanted to keep my personal views out of this thread at least for a while.
ReplyDeleteBut DONNA I could not have said it better myself. That is exactly what I believe should be done, but I doubt if it will ever happen unless, like you say “ALL WHO ARE OF THIS OPINION STAND UP AND BE COUNTED AND SOMEHOW MAKE OUR VIEWS HEARD”.
just arrived back from a lovely break in Akbuk. The only problem was the amount of dogs roaming the streets. We were walking along the main street when we were surrounded by 4 dogs and if we hadn't been near to Zara's and were able to go and have a coffee not sure what would have happened.
ReplyDeletethese dogs are a problem and i fear will damage the appeal of Akbuk if they aren't already
ReplyDeleteHi, I too was attacked 2 years ago by the pool in our hotel! it has made me very nervous of dogs. fortunately I was not bitten as my husband scared it off, but it ripped the back out of dress! The owners of the hotel had actually taken this dog in as they felt sorry for it. We complained and were told that the dog had been taken away but 2 days later it bit the cleaner. We are coming to Akbuk next week and your comments have made me even more nervous. Has anyone any advice on how to deal with these dogs? A big stick? Mace spray? I do think there should be more done as it does put people off. I have always loved dogs but this had made me very wary of them. It is also unfair to the dogs to live this way.
